"To a person, the first sight of the grand Lisnavagh House tends
to draw gasps, but I think we've all had that experience before, where
awe and admiration gradually turns into isolation or boredom, having become
intimidated at one's unfamiliar and impressive surroundings. Not so at
Lisnavagh.
Free to wander around the breathtakingly well kept home, it is obvious
that the house is loved rather than maintained. For one, the fires are
on, and there are books in the library, and is that the smell of cooking
in the kitchen? 'Time travel' might be a more appropriate term.
The attention to detail in the bedrooms would bring a tear to the eye,
and I'd say a few people regret not having made more use of their one
shot at slumbering in a four poster bed befitting the Princess Pea. I
for one will remember my first bath as a married man more than is the
norm.
And then there are the people we met. A local fellow
named Peter fulfilled the bar arrangements, Rosebud was his trusty left
hand, and Gladys was the babysitter. Delightful to the end, and beyond
even, as I'm sure it was Gladys serving fry ups to overnighters the next
day!
Not surprising considering the manner William and Emily run the show (if
you could call a fully functioning estate with timber operation and period
gardens and God knows what else a 'show'!). I couldn't recommend better
people to get involved with if one is going to embark on the task of doing
their reception, their way."
