Lisnavagh House & Gardens provides is set in a private location away from the outside world and is here to be enjoyed as a private home by you and your guests.

The name “Lisnavagh” is believed to come from the Irish “Lios na BhFea”, which means garden or enclosure of beech. Situated near Rathvilly in the north of Co Carlow, the estate has been a family home for eleven generations and covers almost 1,000 acres of farmland and woodlands.

Lisnavagh House is a Gothic Revival Mansion built in 1847 by the renowned Scottish architect, Daniel Robertson. In 1952 the House was carefully modified and the magnificent oak-panelled Library is now the largest room in Lisnavagh House with a large open log fire, ancestral portraits and views of Mount Leinster across the extensive parkland. All of the four downstairs rooms have open log fires with direct access to the Gardens.

Lisnavagh Gardens have been stunningly restored over the past thirty years and offer 14 acres of Pleasure Grounds, Mixed Borders, a Walled Garden and Rock Gardens. As well as the more unusual shrubs, there are many fine oaks, chestnuts, limes, beeches and other great trees to see. Snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells and other seasonal plants clothe the ground beneath a wonderful array of trees and shrubs, including some magnificent rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, embothriums and many other unusual shrubs, as well as some of the most spectacular Irish yews. The Mixed Border, against a lovely Granite Wall, is set off by acres of lawn, upon which peacocks strut and preen themselves.

Rental is on a self catering basis however we have local private caterers available upon request. Lisnavagh House & Gardens can be rented on an exclusive short-term basis from three days up to one month.
