Lisnavagh House is an architectural triumph dating to the 1840s, and designed by the brilliant Scottish architect Daniel Robertson. Set amid a private estate of 1000 acres, Lisnavagh has been a family home for 350 years. As such, there is a tremendous sense of history here, echoing from the great maritime paintings above the granite stairwell to the handsome family portraits in the Library and Ante-Hall. The oak-panelled Library is a particularly fine room, a magical combination of exquisite Victorian craftsmanship, roaring log fire and the cutting edge zest of Sasha Bunbury’s internationally acclaimed Farm21 design company. Lady Jessica Rathdonnell has stunningly restored the original Victorian gardens over the past thirty years. Guests are invited to stroll amid 14 acres of pleasure ground and gardens, including the gorgeous American Gardens and majestic Irish Yew Walk. Alternatively one can walk the 1000-acre estate of rolling pastureland and forestry, with the Blackstairs and Wicklow Mountains rising and falling upon the distant horizon. There are over 250 acres of native woodland, carefully managed by the Rathdonnell’s eldest son, William Bunbury. The Rathdonnell’s second son, Andrew Bunbury, is also intimately involved with the landscaping of the estate while the third son, the writer Turtle Bunbury, is always on hand to recount the fascinating story of Lisnavagh. Lisnavagh House was completely rewired in 2005 and undergoing full refurbishment and re-decoration. Lisnavagh House is being let for the 2006 Ryder Cup in September 2006 with on-site hospitality. The Rathdonnells and their children have a deep passion for their family home. This should be regarded as an extremely rare opportunity to enjoy the powerful ambience of a private ancestral home.
