Martha Cashman

I am a sculptor in mid-career, after returning from the USA in 2002 I studied at CSN Tramore Rd Cork
and MUT Crawford Collage of Art and Design where I receiving my BA Hons Degree in Ceramic Design
in 2007. I trained as an arts facilitator in community art development and special needs. My focus has
been on installation work reflecting my connection to the land and to the cultural histories of place and
time. My garden is my utopia, I am constantly thinking about nature and at my happiest working with the
earth. Having grown up on a farm producing fields of food I am driven to protect the earth and wildlife
around me.

MORE CLAY LESS PLASTIC IRELAND is an eco-awareness project I have developed over the last six
years, addressing ways to support sustainability and biodiversity.

I offer creative clay workshops and my mascot piece is my colourful birdfeeder, an educational tool,
based on pollinating plants. I am passionate about sharing my skills in this area and addressing the
benefits of working with clay and focusing on protecting our environment and encouraging the ideas of
reuse and recycling whilst being creative.

Over the past 10 years I have created work at international symposiums in Latvia, Turkey, Cyprus,
Tunisia, Romania and some of my large-scale work is held in museums in these countries. I maintain
professional memberships of the Design and Craft Council of Ireland, Cork Potters, Cork Craft and
Design and Ceramics Ireland. My most recent collaboration was with fashion designer Caroline Duffy,
selected by the Design and Craft Council of Ireland’s collaboration with the Council of Fashion Designers
to create a one off piece for the catwalk.
